Brandeis Upsets #19 Redlands, 5-4

The 28th ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team finished out their 2017 spring trip with a huge upset over 19th ranked Redlands with a 5-4 victory. The Judges now have a 4-1 record, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-4. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges opened up with only one victory in doubles, an 8-4 win by classmates Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) and Michele Lehat (Great Neck , N.Y. / John L. Miller Great Neck North) at the No. 3 spot
  • Sophomores Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) at No. 4 singles, Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) at No. 5 singles, and Khromchenko at No. 3 singles each only lost 4 total games in their singles matches to bring the overall score to 4-2
  • No. 6 Lehat lost her match 6-3, 6-3.
  • With only one more victory needed to win the match, No. 1 Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash. / Laurel Springs Prep) and No. 2 Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) were the only two players still left on the court, and both were in pretty close matches
  • Cohen soon clinched the match with a score of 6-4, 6-3 to bring the Judges to victory
  • Neergaard had a tight match, before falling to Sarah Ikioka of Redlands in a super tiebreaker 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-5.
