The 18th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team earned its fifth-straight win today as the Judges defeated Division II opponent Southern New Hampshire, 9-0. With the win, the Judges improve to 13-3 on the season, one win shy of the program's best season under head coach Ben Lamanna. The Penmen fall to 14-7.
The Judges wasted little time jumping out to a 3-0 lead, as they dropped just three games across their three doubles matches. Sophomores Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Allied Academy of Health and Sciences) and Michele Lehat (Great Neck , N.Y. / John L. Miller Great Neck North) rolled to an 8-0 victory at No. 3, while junior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Acad.) and sophomore Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) were 8-1 winners at No. 2. Rookie Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash./Laurel Springs Acad.) and sophomore Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) rounded out the doubles sweep, 8-2, at the top spot.
In singles action, Brandeis won four different sets at love. Lehat completed a sweep of all 20 games she played, winning 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. Leavitt clinched the victory at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2, while He was close behind at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2. Cohen won by the reverse score, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2. The Judges were able to pull out wins in the two toughest matches of the day. Ross Neergaard needed a second-set tiebreaker to defeat SNHU's Abla Chadli, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 1. Khromchenko and the Penmen's Anna Sala had the longest match of the afternoon at No. 3. Sala prevailed in a first-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2), but Khromchenko answered back in the second, 6-4. In the decisive super tiebreaker, Khromchenko completed the sweep, 12-10.
