The 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to Kenyon College to play the 32nd-ranked Ladies on Saturday, April 1. The Tartans won 5-4 and move to 12-6 for the season.
After doubles play, the Tartans led 2-1. The number one pair of senior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) finished first with an 8-2 win, while junior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) and sophomore Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) put the Tartans ahead 2-1 with a 9-7 win in the third position.
Vizelman earned a 6-0, 6-3 win a third singles to give the Tartans a 3-1 lead. With the score tied at 3-3, Torres earned a three-set win at first singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, to give the Tartans back the lead before Lai sealed the match win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.
