CWRU Sweeps Allegheny

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, began its weekend with a 9-0 win over Allegheny College in Erie Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 3-1 on the season, while Allegheny dropped to 3-5 for the campaign.

In doubles action, junior Nithya Kanagasegar and sophomore Jessica Liu defeated Michaela Thompson and Gaby DeLeon 8-3 at first doubles, while junior Peyton Young and freshman Kendal Holladay claimed an 8-2 victory over Heidi Mueller and Amanda Ress Liere in the second doubles match. Junior Nina Cepeda and freshman Katie Busch rounded out the doubled sweep with an 8-1 win the third doubles contest over Rachel Crookston and Miharu Koh.

In singles action, Holladay bested DeLeon at first singles 6-1, 6-1 and Cepeda claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Thompson at second singles. Also claiming singles wins for the Spartans on Saturday were Young at third singles 6-0, 6-3 over Ress Liere, freshman Katrin Gurvich  at fourth singles 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) over Mueller, Busch at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Sarah Casey, and freshman Lauren Beier at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-2 over Koh.

The win was the third-straight for the Spartans, who have now five of their last six matches dating back to last year.
