CWRU Downs SUNY Geneseo, 9-0

The 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team defeated SUNY Geneseo 9-0 on Saturday at the Cleveland Skating Club to extend their winning-streak to a season-high eight matches.

The Spartans improved to 12-2 overall with the win, while the Knights dropped to 10-4 with the loss.

Case Western Reserve swept the three doubles matches on Saturday, as junior Nithya Kanagasegar and sophomore Jessica Liu topped Lauren Salzano and Anika Pornpitaksuk 8-1 at first doubles, junior Nina Cepeda and freshman Katrin Gurvich bested Rachel Ollis and Maggie Hale 8-2 at second doubles, and freshman Katie Busch and senior Kennedy Mulholland earned an 8-0 win over Jennifer Buckhout and Vanessa Lam-Tran at third doubles.

In singles play, all six of the Spartans victories were in straight sets. Holladay topped Salzano 6-3, 6-4 in the first match, and Liu earned a 6-4 6-2 victory over Pornpitaksuk at second singles. In the third singles match, junior Peyton Young bested Lam-Tran 6-3, 6-2, and Gurvich picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ollis at fourth singles. Rounding out the win, Busch claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hale at fifth singles, and freshman Lauren Beier earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Buckhout at sixth singles.
