Eagles Defeat Carnegie Mellon 7-2; Advance to UAA Championship Match to Face Chicago

For the 30th consecutive season the Emory University Women's Tennis program will play in the University Athletic Association championship match as the Eagles defeated 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 7-2, in the semifinals Friday afternoon at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Emory is in search of its fifth straight UAA title and the 28th overall in program history and will face second-seeded and ninth-ranked University of Chicago in the championship match Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 AM. The Maroons reached the title match following a 5-4 win over Washington University in the other semifinal match on Friday. Emory leads the all-time series with UC, 18-2, including an 8-1 victory in last year's meeting in the UAA semifinals.

Junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su recorded their 25th win of the season at first doubles, taking down Nicholle Torres and Cori Sidell by an 8-4 margin. After an 8-5 win at third doubles for the Tartans, senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez put the Eagles in front heading into singles with an 8-6 decision on court two.

CMU was no match for Emory in singles as the Blue and Gold reeled off five straight wins to clinch the victory. Senior Paula Castro was 6-1, 6-1 winner at sixth singles before Harding delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles. Senior Melissa Goodman polished off her opponent 6-1, 6-1 on court five and Lopez prevailed 6-4, 6-4 on the third line. Su added a win at fourth singles as CMU's Vinaya Rao retired with the score 4-6, 2-1.

Katarina Su moved into a tie with Lorne McManigle ('11) on the all-time doubles wins list with 93…Michelle Satterfield notched her 90th career doubles win, becoming the eighth Eagle to accomplish the feat…Su also climbed into a tie with Madison Gordon ('16) for fifth place all-time with her 83rd career singles win.
