Eagles Continue Play at Mercer Gridiron Classic

The Emory University Women's Tennis team continued action at the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Saturday afternoon with a pair of doubles team reaching the finals in the A doubles draw and five Eagles advancing to the semifinals in their respective singles flight.

In doubles action, pairs junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su and senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez each reached the finals of the A draw following wins on Saturday. Harding and Su took care of Middle Georgia's Laura Peniani and Preeti Gokhale 6-4 with Satterfield and Lopez besting Mercer's Katia Stravrovlaki and Grace Korta 6-3. In the B draw a day after reaching the semifinals, senior Michelle DeMeo and freshman Elaine Vernoff saw their run end as they were upended by Alabama State's Irina Curcic and Gabriela Lackova, 6-1.

In the singles competition, five different Emory players advanced to the semifinals in their respective draws following victories on Saturday afternoon. In the B draw, Lopez collected two wins, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 while Su earned a 7-6 (5) victory after receiving a first round bye. In the C draw, Vernoff reached the final four after a 7-6 (3), 6-4 triumph after earning a bye in the opening round. And in the D draw, senior Melissa Goodman won easily 6-0, 6-2 in her only match on Saturday while DeMeo scooped up two wins, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-3.

In other singles matches, Satterfield won her first match in the A draw, besting Savannah State's Sandy Lochu 6-3, 6-3, before falling to Mercer's Stravrovlaki 7-6 (5). Harding dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision in the second round before bouncing back with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in a consolation match. And in the C draw, freshman Emma Perelman fell 6-2, 6-2 to Mercer's Anna Sovic before winning a consolation match 6-2, 7-6 (4).
