Emory Downs Division I Richmond, 5-2

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis program returned to the win column with 5-2 victory at the University of Richmond Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 5-2 on the season with the win while the Spiders fell to 4-7.

Richmond began the match by taking two out three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez claimed the lone doubles win for the Eagles, defeating Lyndall Giffenig and Kiana Marshall 6-4 at second doubles. Senior Katarina Su and junior Bridget Harding saw their six match winning snapped at first doubles. Falling 6-2. Seniors Michelle DeMeo and Paula Castro dropped a 6-4 decision on court three.

The match swung in favor of Emory during singles play as the Eagles were victorious in five of the six singles matches. Satterfield, Su and senior Melissa Goodman were triumphant in straight sets with Harding and Lopez needing a third set to collect a win. Satterfield bested Gaby Rosales 6-2, 7-6 at second singles with Su downing Marshall 7-6 (4), 6-1. Goodman won her fifth singles match over Brittany Boys 6-4, 6-4.

Harding battled back after a 6-4 first set defeat to upend Dessislava Zlateva 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at first singles. On court no.-4, Lopez won the first set 6-2 over Lea Owens before falling second two, 7-5. Lopez returned to form in the third set however, taking the set 6-1 to clinch the match.
