Top-Ranked Emory Blanks #16 Sewanee, 9-0

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team blanked No.-16 Sewanee University, 9-0, on a brisk spring evening in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles move to 7-4 overall with the win including a 5-0 record against Division III opponents. The Tigers saw their six-match win streak snapped as they slipped to 12-5 for the year.

Junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su collected their 20th win as a tandem to open the match, winning the first doubles match by an 8-0 margin. At third doubles, seniors Paula Castro and Michelle DeMeo earned an 8-2 victory. And at second doubles, senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez won their sixth straight match as a duo with an 8-6 decision.

In singles, Castro and DeMeo extended Emory's lead to 5-0 with a pair of straight set victories. Castro won on court four 6-3, 6-3 while DeMeo was triumphant 6-3, 6-2 at fifth singles. Lopez added a win a third singles as she earned the 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 win. Freshman Elaine Vernoff was victorious in her first action of the spring, as she picked up the win at sixth singles 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.

The match concluded on the main two singles courts as Harding and Satterfield finished off the shutout for the Eagles. Harding topped Clementina Davila in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (4) at first singles with Satterfield edging Ellie Czura at second singles. Satterfield fell behind in the match, dropping the first set 6-1 before rallying with a 7-6 (2) win in set two followed by a 14-12 victory in a third set tiebreak to close out the match.

With the win, Satterfield moved into a tie for sixth place on Emory's all time singles wins with 81.
