The #34-ranked New York University women's tennis team defeated The College of New Jersey 5-4 on Thursday, April 13, in Ewing, NJ.

The Violets (7-3) won one match in doubles play and four matches in singles play to earn a narrow victory over the Lions (11-3).

"This was another dramatic finish at TCNJ," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "A couple of weeks after our men won a dramatic 5-4 contest, the women did the same."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshmen Rupa Ganesh and Judy Kam opened up the scoring for NYU with an 8-4 win over Sneha Rangu and Audrey Chen in #3 doubles.

- Sophomore Vanessa Scott (6-4, 6-1) and Ganesh (6-0, 6-2) picked up wins in #2-3 singles, respectively.

- Trailing 4-3 with two matches to go, the Violets earned victories from senior Laila El Dessouski (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) and sophomore Alice McGinty (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) to complete the comeback.

"Down 2-1 after doubles, Rupa pulled us to 2-2 and Vanessa then made it 3-2," added Choy. "TCNJ won the next two to put them up 4-3, but Alice won her final two sets to pull us even at 4-4. Then Laila, our senior captain, came back from a set down to clinch the match."
