NYU Finishes Day One at Vassar Scramble

The New York University women's tennis team completed its first day of competition at the Vassar College Scramble on Saturday, September 17, in Poughkeepsie, NY. 

The Violets, competing against Vassar College and Connecticut College, went 9-3 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles play, for an overall record of 10-4.

"We started out strong and we were ready to play," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.

Leading the way for the Violets were senior Laila El Dessouki and freshman Judy Kam. Both players went 2-0 in singles play, and as a doubles team they defeated Connecticut College's Adrienne Sieverding and Stephanie Simon 8-5.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU freshman Nikki Ong went 2-1 on the day, including a perfect 2-0 in singles play.

- Sophomores Alice McGinty and Ayesha Das, and freshman Rupa Ganesh picked up singles victories, as well.

"It was a good first day of the tournament, and I expect more of the same tomorrow," added Choy.
