Chicago Advances Seven Singles and Four Doubles at First Day of ITA Regional

The University of Chicago women's tennis team advanced seven singles players and all four doubles teams on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Friday.

With 128 singles players in the draw, seven of UChicago's eight players won two matches each to advance to the round of 32. The winners included No. 2-seed junior Ariana Iranpour, No. 6-seed sophomore Rachel Kim, No. 9-seeded freshmen Estefania Navarro and Marjorie Antohi, No. 17-seed senior Tiffany Chen, No. 17-seed freshman Alyssa Rudinand sophomore Kaela Bynoe. Bynoe upset the No. 25-seed from Washington University-St. Louis in three sets.

In doubles action, the Maroons went a perfect 4-0 in the opening round of 64. No. 9-seed Iranpour/Chen shutout their opponents 8-0. No. 2-seed Kim/Rudin and No. 9-seed Antohi/Navarro won by scores of 8-1 and 8-3, respectively. Bynoe and sophomore Adrienne Travis were also victorious by an 8-2 margin.
