Chicago Earns Spots in Singles and Doubles Finals at ITA Regionals

The University of Chicago women's tennis team reached the finals in both singles and doubles at day three of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Sunday.

UChicago had four singles participants remaining of the final eight players. In the quarterfinals, freshman No. 9-seed Marjorie Antohi faced off against junior teammate and No. 2-seed, Ariana Iranpour. The Maroon battle ended in favor of Antohi, 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore No. 6-seed Rachel Kim ended her singles run in the quarters with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to No. 1-seed Rebecca Ho of Washington University-St. Louis. Freshman No. 9-seed Estefania Navarro went the distance with Denison University's No. 4 seed before falling in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

The semifinals saw Antohi finish off the No. 9-seed from John Carroll University 6-1, 6-1. The UChicago freshman advances to play the No. 1-seed Ho for the singles title at 11:00 AM (ET) on Monday.

The doubles quarterfinals featured three UChicago tandems. The No. 9-seed team of Antohi/Navarro won in the quarters 8-1 over the No. 8-seeds from Kalamazoo College, then won 8-4 over DePauw University in the semis. They will play the No. 1 seeds from Washington-St. Louis at 9:00 AM (ET) on Monday.

No. 2-seed Kim/freshman Alyssa Rudin lost in the quarters 8-6 to the duo from DePauw, and No. 9-seed Iranpour/senior Tiffany Chen lost to the No. 1-seeds, 8-4.
