Yellowjackets Defeat Geneseo, 9-0, For Win #12

From University of Rochester Athletics

Rochester swept to six straight singles victories to complete a 9-0 victory over SUNY Geneseo in a match that was hastily rescheduled thanks to Mother Nature.

The teams were supposed to meet at Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon but steady rain began shortly after the noon hour. Both institutions agreed to move the match to UR's Goergen Center courts in time for the 4 pm start.

The win was the sixth straight for the Yellowjackets. Rochester is 12-4 overall and has won 10 of its last 12. UR will host RIT on Wednesday before heading to Florida next week for the University Athletic Association championships.

SUNY Geneseo is 11-7 overall. The Knights won 10 of their first 11 and were coming off an 8-1 victory at Union College two days ago. Geneseo wraps up the regular season at St. Lawrence on Saturday.

Rochester took all three doubles events. At #1, Camila Garcia and Lauren Zickar defeated Lauren Salzano and Anika Pornpitaksuk, 8-3. Alex Wolkoff paired with Abbey Reinhart to win, 8-3, at #2 against Vanessa Lam-Tran. At third doubles, Sravya Gudipudi and Bianca Dyer won, 8-1, against Rachel Ollis and Nina Lurie.

Garcia won, 1 and 2, over Salzano at #1 singles. Gudipudi took #2 against Pornpitaksuk, 3 and 1. Wolkoff topped Ollis, 4 and 2, at #3. Zickar won, 1 and 3, at #4 against Lam-Tran, while Reinhart won, 3 and 1, against Hale at #5. Darby McCall finished the victory with a 1 and 4 win over Lurie at #6.
