Three singles players and one doubles team have advanced to the semifinals of their respective flights at the 2016 Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith College.
Senior Darby McCall reached the semis of both the C singles and paired with freshman Abbey Reinhart to make it to the B doubles semifinals. UR's other semifinalists are freshman Srayva Gudipudi in the A singles competition and senior Mariana Flores Kim in the D singles bracket
McCall started her run with an 8-2 win over Carly Jefferson of St. Lawrence and then backed that up with an 8-5 triumph over Brianna Dimisko of RIT. In doubles, her and Reinhart topped Nazareth's Aliana Burgos and Maeve Morgan 8-1 before dispatching Jane Alkhazov and Jodi Grosberg of Ithaca 8-2 in the quarters.
Gudipudi made the most of her first appearance in a UR uniform, defeating Michaelann Denton of host William Smith in her first round match 8-3. After that, the UR first year defeated Amelia Ying of RIT 8-5. Flores Kim was also impressive, defeating Lizzie Gerllman of Geneseo 8-4 before topping Jenny Lee of Rensselaer 8-1 in her quarterfinal.
In addition to Gudipudi, UR's Camila Garcia was entered in the A singles flight but lost a tough match to Haley Kusak of Ithaca by an 8-6 score. Teammates Lauren Zickar and Alex Wolkoff competed in the B flight of singles with Zickar winning her opening round match over Emily Wyman via walkover. In the quarters she dropped the match by an 8-6 score to Allie Perron of William Smith. Wolkoff lost in the first round to Katarina Kostovic of William Smith by an 8-6 score.
In the C singles flight, Reinhart won her first ever singles match in a UR uniform, topping RIT's Diana Kulawiec 8-1. In the second round, Pooja Ganesh of RPI defeated the UR freshman 8-6. Rounding out UR's singles competitors was Alyssa Gontzes in the D flight. She won over Jessica Coombs of RIT 8-6 in the first round before bowing out to Makenzi Herbst of Rensselaer 8-3. Freshman Alyssa Cheneski also competed in the D flight and lost in the opening round to Maddie Nasch of SLU 8-4.
The Yellowjackets had two doubles pairs in the A flight competition. Garcia and Zickar won 8-2 over their Geneseo opponents in the first round, but fell to a William Smith duo in the quarters. Gudipudi and Wolkoff would drop tight first round match to a team from RPI by an 8-6 score.
The additional B doubles team for Rochester was Chaneski and Flores Kim and they lost in the opening round to a team from Geneseo by an 8-2 score.
