Two Flight Titles For Rochester At William Smith

The University of Rochester women's tennis team had a successful second day at the William Smith Mary Hosking Invitational on Sunday, winning two flight singles titles.

Freshman Sravya Gudipudi captured the A flight singles title while senior Mariana Flores Kim won the D singles competition. In Sunday's competition, Gudipudi won her two matches over opponents from Ithaca College. In the semifinals, she won 8-4 over Brianna Ruback and then earned the flight win with a tough 9-8 win over Haley Kusak.

Flores Kim made quick work of her semifinal opponent, winning 8-3 over Maddie Nasch of St. Lawrence. In the final, the UR senior won 8-4 over Haley Sherrard of the Saints.

Fellow senior Darby McCall qualified for the semifinals in the C flight of singles, but lost to SUNY Geneseo's Rachel Ollis by an 8-5 score. In doubles, McCall and freshman Abbey Reinhart paired to reach the B flight final, but ended up dropping an 8-5 decision to Katherine Apt and Carly Jefferson of St. Lawrence.

Rochester's women also had strong performances in the consolation rounds of the tournament, with sophomore Camila Garcia winning the A consolation singles bracket and junior Alex Wolkoff capturing the B singles consolation matches.

UR also won both doubles consolation brackets, with Gudipudi and Wolkoff winning the A flight consolation and Flores Kim and Alyssa Chaneski.
