Yellowjackets Pick Up Second Consecutive Win, Topping John Carroll

A day after topping a nationally ranked Oberlin squad, the University of Rochester women's tennis team turned in another strong performance, edging out John Carroll University 5-4 on Sunday at the Western Reserve Racquet Club. 

The Yellowjackets (8-4) used a strong doubles effort to earn the victory, sweeping all three matches to jump out to the early 3-0 lead.  John Carroll (6-9) would play strong in singles, winning four of the matches, but UR picked up the two points it needed to secure the win.

Rochester, ranked #17 in the northeast region, earns is second straight win over a higher ranked central region team.  John Carroll was the #13 team in the central and Oberlin, who UR won over on Saturday, was #10 in the central and #37 nationally.

In doubles, UR got a clean sweep from pairs Camila Garcia and Lauren Zickar at #1, Alex Wolkoff and Abbey Reinhardt at #2 and Bianca Dyer and Sravya Gudipudi at #3. 

Garcia and Zickar defeated regionally ranked Blue Streak players Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini 8-4 while Wolkoff and Reinhart were also 8-4 winners over Nicolette Bourlas and Andreja Didovic.  At #3, Dyer and Gudipudi edged out Jennifer Stroyne and Carlye Campagna 9-7.

In singles, the #19 nationally ranked player in Division III, O'Malley, started off play putting JCU on the board with a win at #1 over Garcia, 6-0, 6-1.

Rochester would then follow with its two singles match wins to clinch the team victory.  Wolkoff would win 6-3, 6-3 at #3 over Nicolette Bourlas with Reinhart topping Natalie Bourlas 6-2, 6-3. 

Finishing off the match, John Carroll would take the remaining three matches, all of which went to three sets.  At #2, Rini topped Gudipudi 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 while Katherine Devine won over Zickar 3-6, 6-1, 12-10 at #4.  In the #5 spot, UR's Darby McCall dropped a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 match to Stroyne.
