The University of Rochester women's tennis team continued its late season surge, defeating St. Lawrence University 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

Rochester (11-4), wins its fifth straight match, with this one coming in a key regional battle against the Saints who drop to 5-8 on the year.  UR entered the match ranked #17 in the northeast region while SLU was one spot behind at #18.

The visiting Saints would get out to an early lead after the doubles competition, taking two of the three matches.  Rochester earned the first point though when Camila Garcia and Lauren Zickar won at the #1 position by an 8-3 score over Georgia Comber and Alexandra Dadoly.  St. Lawrence answered back with an 8-4 win at #3 doubles from Lia Peterson and Katherine Apt, topping UR's Darby McCall and Mariana Flores Kim.  The final doubles point went to a tiebreak, as Emily Wyman and Hallie Young won 8-7, edging out Alex Wolkoff and Abbey Reinhart 10-8 in the tiebreaker.

In singles, it was all Yellowjackets as UR won all six spots in straight sets.  Garcia took the first point at #1 winning 6-1, 6-0 over Comber.  Zickar then made it 3-2 UR after her 6-0, 6-2 win at #4 over Wyman followed by Sravya Gudipudi's 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 over Apt to pull Rochester within one point of the match.

The clinching point was won by Wolkoff over Young at the #3 spot, in what would prove to be the most tightly contested singles match of the day.  Wolkoff took the opening set 6-3, but then fell behind 0-3 early in the second set, eventually rallying for a 7-5 win to clinch the match for Rochester.

Finishing out singles play, Reinhart topped Peterson 6-2, 6-2 at #5 while McCall won 6-1, 6-2 at the sixth spot.

UR's three seniors, Zickar, Flores Kim and McCall were honored prior to the match as Saturday was senior day on the River Campus.
