Rochester Posts 8-1 Win Over William Smith

The University of Rochester women's tennis team picked up a strong regional victory on Wednesday evening, topping visiting William Smith College 8-1 at the Goergen Athletic Center.

UR (6-2) swept all six singles positions in a hotly contested match to win its fourth straight.  The loss drops William Smith to 5-3 on the season.

The Yellowjackets had three double winners on the day, with Sravya Gudipudi, Alex Wolkoff and Darby McCall winning both singles and doubles matches.

William Smith picked up its lone point of the match at the #1 doubles spot, with Hannah More and Katarina Kostovic topping UR's Camila Garcia and Lauren Zickar by an 8-5 score.  But UR responded with wins at #2 and #3 to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.  Gudipudi and Wolkoff paired together to defeat Michaelann Denton and Allie Perron 8-3 at #2 doubles while McCall and Mariana Flores Kim were 8-6 winners over Kate Foley and Alex Greenberg at #3.

In singles, three matches went the distance, with Rochester winning each at #1, #3 and #4 respectively.  At the top spot, Garcia won over More 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 while at four, Zickar rallied to defeat Foley 4-6, 6-0 and 6-2.  In the longest match of the day, Wolkoff outlasted Perron at #3, winning 7-5, 5-6 and 7-6 (2).

Completing the singles sweep were Gudipudi topping Denton 6-4, 7-6 (8) at #2, McCall defeating Greenberg at #5 6-4, 6-3 and Abbey Reinhart blanking Leland Barclay 6-0, 6-0 in the six spot.
