Brandeis Wins Home Opener, 8-1, Over Trinity

The Brandeis University tennis teams completed a sweep of Trinity (Connecticut) College today in the Gosman Athletic Center. 

Rookie Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) and junior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./ Academy of Allied Health and Science) opened the scoring at No. 2, 8-3, followed by junior Michele Lehat (Great Neck, N.Y./John L. Miller Great Neck North) and rookie Rachel Zubrinsky (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge) with an 8-5 win at No. 3. Senior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Acad.) and junior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) made it 3-0 with a late break in an 8-6 win at No. 1.

In singles action, Leavitt cruised to the Judges' fourth point with a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 3. Trinity got its only point of the day at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-4, win by Vanja Babunski over Cohen, avenging a doubles loss. The match was clinched at No. 4, where Bertsch picked up a quick 6-3, 6-0, win, while Khromchenko was grinding out a 6-7 (5-7) 6-3, 6-4, win at No. 2.

Lehat (8-2) and Zubrinsky (8-4) rounded out the win at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
