Both senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships, while the duo of Kanagasegar and Paolucci reached the semifinals of the doubles draw on Saturday in Oberlin, Ohio.
Kanagasegar, the second-seeded player, earned wins over North Park's Vilde Olvin (6-0, 6-0) and ninth-seeded Erika Oku of Kenyon (2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2) to reach the quarterfinals. Paoluccis, the ninth-seeded player in the draw, defeated Augustana's Annie Timm (6-1, 6-0) and then earned a win over Washington (Mo.) University's Libby Jubas (0-6, 6-3, 6-4) on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Kanagasegar and Paolucci, the fifth-seeded duo in the draw, reached the semifinals of the doubles bracket with a round of 16 win over ninth-seeded Sanjna Tripathy and Lisa Chionis of Washington (Mo.) University (8-6), followed by an 8-5 upset win over No. 1-seed Marjorie Antohi and Daryn Ellison of Chicago.
Kanagasegar and Paolucci will now face fourth-seeded Diana Aboubakare and Erika Oku of Kenyon in the semifinals on Sunday, with the championship scheduled to follow on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
Senior Peyton Young and freshman Nicole Cardwell defeated Oberlin's Sarah Hughes and Delaney Black (8-4), but fell to second-seeded Grace Deering and Ally Persky of Wash. U. (8-5) in the doubles quarterfinals.
