CWRU Improves to 12-3 With Win at Oberlin

The 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team cruised to its 12th win of the season, defeating Oberlin College 8-1 at the Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 12-3 on the year with the win, while Oberlin dropped to 11-7.

CWRU got off to a hot start in Saturday's match with a sweep of the three doubles contests. The closest match of the three was at third doubles, where the Spartans' duo of senior Peyton Young and Nicole Cardwell defeated Jackie McDermott and Lena Rich 9-8. Case Western Reserve claimed an 8-5 victory at first doubles, with senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci defeating Oberlin's Sarah Hughes and Mayada Audeh, and also an 8-3 win at second doubles, with senior Nina Cepeda and junior Jessica Liupicking up a win over Rainie Heck and Delaney Black.

Liu defeated Audeh at third singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. The Spartans next two wins came in straight sets at second and fourth singles. Paolucci picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Heck at second singles, and Cepeda claimed a 7-5, 6-4 victory over McDermott in the fourth match. Rounding out the slate of victories for the Spartans were Cardwell over Rich, 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles, and Young 6-2, 7-5 over Black in the fifth singles match. Kanagasegar took the lone loss of the day for the Spartans, losing to Hughes in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
