CWRU Sweeps Rochester

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 18th in Division III, earned a 9-0 win over the 37th-ranked University of Rochester (N.Y.) at the Cleveland Skating Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 6-2 on the season, while Rochester dropped to 1-3 on the campaign.

In doubles action, senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci defeated Camila Garcia and Sravya Gudipudi 8-2 at first doubles, while senior Peyton Young and junior Jessica Liu claimed an 8-4 victory over Alex Wolkoff and Abbey Reinhart in the second doubles match. Senior Nina Cepeda and freshman Nicole Cardwell rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win in the third doubles contest over Yaya Wang and Bianca Dyer.

In singles action, Paolucci bested Garcia at first singles 6-4, 7-5 and freshman Mira Amin claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Gudipudi at second singles. Also claiming singles wins for the Spartans on Saturday were Young at third singles 6-2, 6-1 over Reinhart, Liu at fourth singles 6-0, 6-4 over Wolkoff, Cardwell at fifth singles 6-0, 6-3 over Wang, and Cepeda at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Dyer.

The win was the third-straight for the Spartans, who have now won five of their last six matches.
