CWRu Downs UT-Tyler 8-0 on First Day in Florida

The 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team began their Spring Break to Florida by defeating the University of Texas at Tyler 8-0 in Orlando, Florida on Monday. The Spartans early match against Swarthmore College was postponed due to rain and will resume play tomorrow at a time to be determined.

CWRU improved to 7-2 on the season, while UT-Tyler dropped to 2-3 for the campaign.

Case Western Reserve swept the three doubles matches on Monday, as senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci topped Nancy Perez and Victoria Kniffen 8-6 at first doubles, senior Nina Cepeda and junior Jessica Liu bested Alexandra McKissick and Savannah Seely 8-1 at second doubles, and senior Peyton Young and freshman Nicole Cardwell earned an 8-5 victory Lauren Kuhn and Emily Danielson at third doubles.

In singles play, all five of the Spartan victories were in straight sets. Kanagasegar topped Perez 6-2, 6-2 in the first match, and freshman Mira Amin earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Caitlyn Cox at third singles. In the fourth singles match, Liu bested McKissick 6-0, 6-1 and Young picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Savannah Seely at fifth singles. Rounding out the win, Cepeda claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Molly Hinkle at sixth singles.

The second singles match of Paolucci and Kuhn were unable to finish due to the facility closing.
