Washington University in St. Louis senior Grace Deering and freshman Ally Persky recorded a hard-fought three-set victory Friday afternoon at the 2017 Oracle Cup held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
Deering and Persky, the Central Region Doubles Champions, posted a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 win over Bridgid McGuire and Jillian Wallace of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the back draw semifinals.
The duo takes on No. 4 seed Vinaya Rao and Melissa Strome of Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday at 3 p.m. (ET) in the fifth-place match.
The victory for Deering was the 112th of her career, moving into a tie with Tara Salamone (1991-95) for 16th on the WashU all-time wins list.
The ITA Oracle Cup is comprised of eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) for both singles and doubles from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. The singles and doubles champions at each divisional level then compete to become the overall "Super Bowl" champions.
