Three Eagles Earn ITA Regional Awards

From Emory University Athletics

Senior Bridget Harding, junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico of the Emory University Women's Tennis team were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday with Atlantic South Regional Awards as announced via press release by organization.

Harding was named the Atlantic South Senior Player of the Year. So far this season, Harding has posted a 24-8 record in singles including a 5-3 record at first singles and a 6-3 mark at second singles. In doubles, Harding, along with Gonzalez-Rico have rattled off 19 wins in a row at the No.-1 position and lead the team with a 31-4 record. Harding earned her third All-America award for doubles in the fall and was named the UAA Player of the Year earlier this week.

Lopez was tabbed the region's Player to Watch following a strong junior campaign thus far. Overall, she is 16-7 in singles action and is 9-4 this spring playing at the No.-3 position in Emory's singles lineup. She's added an 11-4 mark in doubles with freshman Katie Chang and was named to the All-UAA Second Team for singles this week.

Gonzalez-Rico was selected as the region's Rookie of the Year on the strength of a superb freshman season. She paces the team with 29 singles wins, going 29-6 including an 8-2 record at first singles. Her 29 wins are the third most in a single season and are the most by an Emory freshman since Jolyn Taylor won 30 during the 2002-03 season. Previously this season, Gonzalez-Rico earned All-America acclaim in both singles and doubles and has been named the UAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and the UAA Rookie of the Year.

All three players will be representing the Eagles at the NCAA Individual Championships next week following the team championships in Claremont, California.
