Emory Closes Out Play at Elon Fall Invitational

The Emory University Women's Tennis team wrapped up the three-day Elon Fall Tennis Invitational on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Elon University in Elon, NC.

After advancing to the finals of the Maroon draw, the top flight of the tournament, on Saturday, freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico saw her run end as she was upended by UNC-Wilmington's Madara Straume in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In other singles action on Sunday, senior Bridget Harding and freshman Stephanie Taylor collected identical 6-2, 6-1 victories, sophomore Emma Perelmanwas triumphant in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 and freshman Trisha Sundaram earned a hard-fought three set win over ETSU's Ioanna Markensini, 7-5, 3-6, 13-11.

The Eagles added three more wins on the doubles courts as Harding and Gonzalez-Rico bested UNCW's Straume and Thompson, 8-3; senior Anna Fuhr and Sundaram doubled up another pair from UNCW, Fougner and Horn, 8-4; and Perelman and Taylor knocked off Longwood's Candiotto and Terunuma pairing, 8-2.
