Emory Opens Mercer Gridiron Classic on Friday

The Emory University Women's Tennis program saw four Eagles in action Friday afternoon on day one of the Mercer Gridiron Classic held by Mercer University in Macon, GA.

All four Eagles advanced to the Round of Eight in the respective draw on Friday after earning first-round byes. In the top draw, freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and senior Bridget Harding both advanced via straight set victories. Gonzalez-Rico defeated FAMU's Aylen Hubeaut 6-4, 6-4 while Harding topped Jacksonville State's Genevie Ulanday 6-4, 6-3.

Junior Daniela Lopez, top-seed in the Stampeders draw, edged out Georgia St. College's Paula Garriga 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Defne Olcay impressed, with a 6-0, 6-1 win in her second-round match in the Blue Bombers draw.

All four Eagles were also in action in doubles competition on Friday as Gonzalez-Rico and Harding were upended by Florida Southern's Devrimci/Schwab, 6-4, while Olcay and Lopez were bounced by FAMU's Hubeaut/Machisa duo, also by a 6-4 margin.
