NYU Wins Sixth in a Row With Win Over Geneseo

From NYU Athletics

For the sixth straight match, the New York University women's tennis team has come out victorious. The Violets posted a 9-0 shutout of SUNY Geneseo at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, on Sunday, April 8.

The Violets were also celebrating their Family/Alumnae Day, an event that no doubt gave the women an extra confidence boost following Saturday's tough 5-4 victory over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Brandeis University.

NYU is now 6-0 for the season while SUNY Geneseo fell to 10-7.

In doubles, Anna Maria Buraya and Coco Kulle (#2) swept their opponents 8-0, while Vanessa Scott and Flyora Shiyanova (#1) had to battle hard for an 8-4 victory. Also, Ayesha Das and Anandini Chawla (#3) seized the opportunity in their first doubles match together this season by overcoming the opposition 8-1.

"Today's match allowed us to work in some of the other players," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "It's good when everybody gets experience out on the court."

NYU continued its momentum into singles, most notably with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout by Kulle at #2. Not to be outdone, Buraya (#1), Shiyanova (#3) and Chawla (#6) all had shutouts in one of two sets in their matches, as well.

Overall, the Violets did not drop a set all day.

"The women came back well after a tough match yesterday," concluded Choy.
