The New York University women's tennis team completed its second day of play at the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by Skidmore College on Saturday, September 23, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
"All the women competing today played well," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.
In the singles bracket, freshmen Coco Kulle and Anna Maria Buraya each won two matches and advanced to the semifinals, which will take place tomorrow. Kulle will face the College of New Jersey's Sneha Rangu, while Buraya will face Skidmore's Ada Wiggins.
Additionally, in doubles play, two NYU pairs - Buraya and sophomore Judy Kam, and Kulle and junior Flyora Shiyanova - won quarterfinals and semifinals matches on Saturday. The two Violets pairs will face off in tomorrow's championship match.
"Coco Kulle played especially well," added Choy. "She played two very tough, three-set singles matches that took a total of seven hours, and followed that with two doubles matches. She showed a lot of grit, character and determination in her matches."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Shiyanova and Kam competed in singles play, as well. Shiyanova defeated Skidmore's Risa Fukushige in Round 3 before falling to Wiggins in the quarterfinals, while Kam was defeated by TCNJ's Brittany Reedman in Round 3.
