NYU Concludes Play at ITA Oracle Cup

From NYU Athletics

Three members of the New York University women's tennis team completed play at the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Oracle Cup Championship on Saturday, October 14, in Rome, GA.

Competing in the seventh-place match in both the singles and doubles brackets, the Violets lost both of their matches on Saturday.

"It was a tough week," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "Obviously, they didn't want to end the fall this way, but I'm proud of the way they competed."

Freshman Anna Maria Buraya was defeated by Rachel Summers of the University of Mary Washington 6-2, 6-3 in the singles bracket.

In doubles play, junior Flyora Shiyanova and sophomore Coco Kulle faced off against Bridgid McGuire and Jillian Wallace of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Violet duo won the first set, but ultimately lost the match in a close 6-7 (1), 6-4, 10-7 decision.

"To qualify for Nationals is a feat," added Choy. "The level of competition outside of the top seeds was close enough so that if you didn't play your best, you came up short."

This concludes the fall season for NYU.

"The tournament was a good learning experience and something to build on for the spring season," continued Choy.
