NYU Defeats Swarthmore College

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's tennis team opened up its 2018 spring season with a 9-0 victory over Swarthmore College on Friday, February 23, in Swarthmore, PA.

The Violets took all three doubles matches followed by all six singles matches to secure the sweep in their inaugural competition.

"I'm happy with the result," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "The doubles was a little uneven but that is to be expected with the first match of the year. They played very strong in singles and dominated play."

NYU got off to solid start with doubles wins from Flyora Shiyanova and Vanessa Scott (8-6), Coco Kulle and Anna Maria Buraya (8-2), and Rupa Ganesh and Judy Kam (8-5).

The team continued its dominance into the singles round with wins from Buraya (6-0, 6-2), Kulle (6-0, 6-3), Shiyanova (6-2, 7-5), Scott (3-6, 6-3, 10-8), Kam (6-2, 5-7, 10-4), and Ganesh (6-4, 6-1).

"It is a good start, but we have a tough test in Christopher Newport tomorrow," concluded Choy.
