NYU Competes at Vassar Scramble

The New York University women's tennis team completed its first day of play at the Vassar Scramble on Saturday, September 16, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Competing against host Vassar College and Connecticut College, the Violets went 13-3 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles play, finishing Saturday with a 17-3 record.

Leading the way for NYU was freshman Coco Kulle, who dropped just four games on the day en route to a perfect 3-0 record. The Vienna, Austria, native went 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles play.

"Coco had a good showing, winning all three of her matches relatively easily," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

- Juniors Flyora Shiyanova and Ayesha Das, sophomore Judy Kam and freshmen Anna Maria Buraya finished with 3-0 records (2-0 in singles play, 1-0 in doubles play), as well.

- Junior Alice McGinty defeated Connecticut College's Meredith Kenny (6-1, 6-1) and Vassar's Lauren DiFazio (6-2, 6-0) to finish the day with a 2-0 singles record.

- Freshmen Liza Hegedus and Kate Shaffer defeated Rachel Weiss and Kenny of Connecticut College 8-6 in doubles play.

"We came out with good intensity and maintained it throughout the day," added Choy. "We hope to continue the strong play tomorrow."
