The No. 9-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team continued its weekend in Ohio with a victory at Case Western Reserve University on Saturday.
The women's night match saw the Maroons (5-0 record) take a 2-1 lead after doubles. Sophomore Marjorie Antohi and first-year Claire Handa squeaked out a 9-8 win at the No. 1 position, while sophomores Estefania Navarro and Alyssa Rudin blew past their No. 3 opponents 8-1.
UChicago then won the next three singles matches to secure the team win. Antohi rolled at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Handa and first-year Catherine Xu only surrendered five games apiece in their straight-sets victories at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Navarro also got a win at No. 4 (7-6, 6-0).
"Our goal heading into the match was to be one ball tougher than the other team and we accomplished that tonight," said Assistant Coach Kris Powell. "Case is a good team and playing them on their home courts is never easy because they always bring a big crowd out. Despite those obstacles, the women played with unbelievable toughness and grit and brought home a W."
