Yellowjackets Defeat SUNY Geneseo, 7-2

The women's tennis team won for the fifth time in the last six matches since returning from Florida. On Thursday afternoon, UR defeated SUNY Geneseo, 7-2, at the indoor courts in the Goergen Athletic Center. Rochester improved to 6-7 overall with the only loss in that six-match hot streak coming against St. Lawrence University, 6-3, last weekend.

UR (6-7) was strong in doubles, sweeping to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Yaya Wang and Julia Steinberg won 8-4 at #3, Alex Wolkoff and Abbey Reinhart won 8-2 and #2 and the team of Sravya Gudipudi and Bianca Dyer won 8-6 at #1.

In singles, Reinhart won at #4 6-2, 6-1 to put UR up 4-0 and Gudipudi clinched the match with her 6-3, 6-1 win at the top spot. Wang then topped Nina Lurie 6-1, 6-4 at #3 before Geneseo won its first point at #2 as Wolkoff fell 6-4, 6-2 to Vanessa Lam-Tran.

Closing out singles, Dyer won 8-6 over Dana Sorrentino at #5 and Steinberg dropped an 8-3 decision to Cate Gluchowski of the Knights (10-8).
