Melissa Strome and Danna Taylor Crowned ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Champions; Taylor Wins Singles Championship

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team competed at the final day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships sweeping the doubles and singles titles. Sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) were crowned doubles champion while Taylor also won the singles championship.

The tandem of Strome and Taylor started the day with a straight set win over their teammates junior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and freshman Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook). The pair won 6-1, 6-0. This marks the second straight season that Strome won the regional doubles championship, as the sophomore teamed with junior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) a year ago.

In singles play, unseeded Taylor opened with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Heidi Sarkkinen of Averett University in the semifinals before knocking of fifth seeded Anjali Kashyap of Johns Hopkins University in three sets. Taylor won 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

Strome and Taylor advance to play in the ITA Oracle Cup at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, on Thurs-day, October 11 through Sunday, October 14.
