Tartans Finish Sixth at UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship

The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team finished sixth scoring 58 points as a team at the final day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship meet. The 2014 championships were hosted by the University of Chicago.

The Tartans were led on day two by senior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) who took second-place in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Guevel crossed the finish line of the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 15.09.  She then finished the 400-meter hurdles with another season-best time of 1:03.82.

Guevel was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay which took fourth-place.  Along with junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead), and freshmen Emily Swanson (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) and Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) the relay team crossed the finish line with a time of 51.62.

In the field on day two, freshman Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) grabbed another fourth-place finish for the Tartans as she cleared the bar in the high jump set at 1.53 meters.
