Senior co-captain Emily Cousens of the New
York University women's cross country and track and field teams
earned Division III College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-District 3 honors, it was
announced on Thursday, May 28. With the distinction, Cousens
automatically moves on to the ballot for consideration for CoSIDA
National Academic All-America Team honors.
Cousens has been extremely successful in the classroom en route to
earning Academic All-District honors. Throughout 2013-14 she earned
UAA Sport All-Academic honors three times, was named to NYU's
Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee (IAAC) honor roll in
the Fall and is on pace for the same honor in the Spring, earned
All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and
Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and graduated as a
recipient of the NYU Student Athlete Academic Achievement
Award.
The distance runner entered her final year at NYU already with
numerous honors and achievements, but continued to add on to her
long list of accolades this past academic year. Over the cross
country, indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, the
Contoocook, NH, native compiled six Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Metro/Upstate Runner of the Week honors, three
University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week awards,
three First Team All-UAA honors -- one Second Team and one Third
Team -- qualified for three NCAA Division III individual
championships, was named to the NCAA All-Atlantic Region team, and
was an NCAA Cross Country All-American. Lastly, Cousens was named
NYU's Senior Athlete of the Year at the annual Hall of Fame
banquet.
