The outstanding career of senior track & field
runner Emily Cousens came to an end at the
NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on
Thursday, May 22, in Delaware, OH.
Competing in a preliminary heat of the 1,500 meters, Cousens was
unable to finish among the top eight and qualify for Saturday's
final.
Despite producing a personal-best time of 4:30.74 at
the Swat Final Qualifying Meet on May 12,
Cousens was unable to equal that success on Thursday. She wound up
posting a time of 4:50.20 and finishing eighth in her heat.
"She was with the pack most of the way, but she just wasn't able to
make a move on the last lap," said Head Coach Nick
McDonough.
Cousens did earn All-America honors in cross country during a final
campaign which also included University Athletic Association
Championships in the outdoor 1,500m and the indoor mile, as well as
an appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Cousens graduates holding the team's indoor 5,00om record
(9:41.11 ), as well as the outdoor 3,000m (9:55.46) and
5,000m (16:59.35) records.
"She's had a great career at NYU, one of the best runners
we've had," McDonough said. "She just had an off day
today."
