The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed in the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Chicago.

Junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla. / Springstead) led the Tartans in day one of competition. Spalding took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters, setting a new career-best mark and setting a new school record.  The previous school record jump of 5.33 meters was set in 2010 by Ivana Moses.

Spalding also tossed the shot put 10.49 meters which was enough to earn her a third-place finish in the event.
