The University of Chicago women's track and field team finished runner-up at day two of the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday.
In the women's competition, Washington University-St. Louis squeezed by UChicago with 211 points compared to 201.5 points. They were followed by Emory University (155), New York University (81), Case Western Reserve University (76.5), Carnegie Mellon University (58) and Brandeis University (30).
The Maroons won four more events on the day for a two-day total of seven titles. The hosts took the top two spots in both the triple jump and the discus. Junior Pam Yu won the triple jump with a leap of 11.07 meters and freshman Olivia Clink was right behind her at 10.88 meters. Sophomore Nkemdilim Nwaokolo defended her championship in the discus with a winning throw of 39.56 meters, which narrowly edged junior teammate Reecie Dern at 39.26 meters.
Freshman Michelle Dobbs kept up her dominance in the 800 meters with a win in 2:14.98, topping the runner-up by about 2.5 seconds. Dobbs has won every 800-meter race she has raced in this year with the exception of the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
Dobbs added to her hardware as the anchor leg on the winning 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of freshman Eleanor Kang, sophomore Alison Pildner, junior Francesca Tomasi and Dobbs won by 0.36 seconds in 3:53.94.
The 4x100-meter relay placed second in a time of 49.10, which included Tomasi, sophomore Mikaela Hammel, Pildner and freshman Charissa Newkirk. Kang also earned All-UAA honors with a third-place showing in the 400 meters (58.97).
