Emeline Liu Breaks CRWU Hammer Record at Gator Invitational

Senior thrower Emeline Liu (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) crushed the school record in the hammer throw as the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team competed at the 2015 Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College.

Liu finished sixth overall after hitting a mark of 49.22 meters on her final toss of the hammer finals breaking the previous school record of 47.50 meters set in 2004 by Diana Kovacic. Also in the hammer, senior Tori Gershom (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) tossed 41.42 meters for ninth place.

Also in the throws, freshman Cassandra Laios (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthingtonfinished second in the shot put with a career-best toss of 12.78 meters and then finished seventh in the discus throw with a mark of 34.43 meters on her first throw of the day.

With a pair of school-record setting marks in the pole vault, senior Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and junior Christen Saccucci (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) each jumped 3.40 meters to match the current school record. Herzog finished fifth while Saccucci finished ninth.

In the long jump, senior McKenzie Braun (Omaha, Neb./West Side) finished ninth with a jump of 4.53 meters.
