Kelsey Aamoth and Kristen Ruckstuhl Lead Strong Performances for CWRU at W&L Carnival

Junior Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, OH/Solon) and senior Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, OH/Mentor) earned event victories for the Case Western Reserve women's track and field team as it opened its outdoor season at the two-day Washington & Lee Carnival.

Aamoth ran a time of 17:50.11 to finish first in a field of 24 runners in the 5,000 meters. Aamoth earned all-conference honors in the 2015 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing third in the 3,000-meter run.

Ruckstuhl, fresh off her runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter run at the UAA championship, won the 10,000 meters at W&L, besting a field of 15 in a time of 36:44.72.

Freshman Danielle Kulpins (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:51.93, while senior Emeline Liu (River Vale, NJ/Pasack Valley) was the runner-up in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.33 meters (135'7"). Junior Christen Saccucci (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South) tied for second place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.31 meters (10'10.25").

Freshman Nimi Gupta (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) earned a third-place finish with a toss of 31.05 meters (101'10") in the discus. Sophomore Ashley Leyden (Atco, NJ/St. Joseph) placed fourth in the triple jump with her leap of 10.30 meters (33'9.5"), while freshman Rachael Collins (Cave Creek, AZ/Cactus Shadows) finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 29.93 meters (98'2").
