Emory Trio Tabbed To Capital One Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-America Honors

Emory University was well represented on the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Teams with Lukas Mees, Julie Williamson and Electra Korn all earning berths on the prestigious squads.

Mees, a native of Marion, Iowa, earned a third-team bid on the men’s team after enjoying a fine junior campaign that saw him capture numerous honors in both cross country and track and field.  During the outdoor track season, Mees helped the Eagles capture the University Athletic Association title with a first-place performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  In addition, he recorded a school-record time of 9:10.58 in the event at the Gregory Invitational and qualified to compete in the NCAA D-III Championships.  He was named the cross country’s team Most Outstanding Performer after ranking among the team’s top three finishers in all eight competitions.  He raced to all-region acclaim after registering a ninth-place finish out of 201 entries at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships where he spearheaded the Eagles to a first-place finish.  A psychology major, Mees was nominated with a 3.94 grade-point average.

Korn was selected to the women’s second team after gaining third-team recognition in 2014.  A biology major who recently graduated, she was nominated with a 3.77 GPA.  A four-time All-American,  Korn holds Emory’s school record in the indoor 400-meter dash and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles.  A seven-time UAA champion and 14-time All-UAA honoree, she was the 2014 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Most Valuable Performer.

A native of Chatham, New Jersey, Williamson captured a spot on the third team following a junior season that saw her earn All-UAA kudos in the indoor 1,600-meter relay (3rd) as well as the the outdoor 800 meter run (2nd) and 4x800 meter relay (3rd). A two-time national competitor, Williamson holds the second-best times in school history in both the indoor 800 meters (2:15.36) and the outdoor 800 meters (2:12.45).  As a member of the cross country team, she earned the program’s 2014 Most Improved Runner Award.  A neuroscience and behavioral biology major, she was nominated with a 3.96 GPA. 

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be selected to an Academic all-District team.

A total of seven Eagles landed Academic All-America status during the 2014-15 school year, bringing the total number of Emory student-athletes to have earn that distinction to 161 during its history.
