Ireland Gibson of the New York University women's track & field team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, March 25, after a record-breaking performance at the University of South Florida Bulls Invitational last week.

In her outdoor track & field debut for the Violets, the freshman middle distance runner broke the NYU team record in the 800m and set a personal best of 2:13.95 to take second among 39 athletes. The previous NYU record of 2:14.48 was set by current team member, junior Sarah Sisk, in 2014.

It is the first weekly honor of Gibson's career.
