NYU Excels at Rider; Violets Place 3rd of 24 Teams

The New York University women's track & field team took part in the Rider University Invitational on Saturday, April 11, in Lawrence Township, NJ.
 
The Violets took third among 24 teams with a total of 146 points. The victory went to Kutztown University (245 points).
 
Junior Kristina Harris had a great showing in both the 100m and the 200m. In the 200m, she clocked the fastest time of the day among non-Division I athletes at 25.97. In the 100m, she was second in 12.52. Harris set career-best marks in both events.
 
Senior Caroline Spring took first place among non-Division I runners in the 400m in 1:00.25. Freshman Ireland Gibson was a runner-up with a time of 1:00.51, while junior Lydia Guo placed fourth in 1:02.04.
 
Highlights:

- Six Violets scored in the 1,500m. Junior Becky Turlip was second in 4:50.52, senior Alyssa Binczyk was third in 4:53.67, while freshman Maggie Lalowski, junior Lily Corsaro and freshman Emily Dethlefs finished fifth (5:06.40), seventh (5:09.01) and eighth (5:11.58), respectively.

- Freshman Alexa Goldman scored in the 400m hurdles, placing fourth in 1:14.94.

- Two Violets debuted in the 3,000m steeplechase. Rookie Morel Malcolm and sophomore Justine Morris came in third (12:31.24) and fourth (12:36.54), respectively.

- NYU was dominant in the relays among Division I teams, as well. The 4x400m team won in 4:05.03, while the 4x800m squad clocked 9:38.28 for the win.

- In the horizontal jumps, junior Rebecca Shimonov  scored in the long jump, placing seventh (4.94m), while sophomore Simone Cooper and freshman Brianna Yee finished third (10.33m) and fourth (10.08m), respectively.
