The New York University women's track & field team competed at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by Emory University on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets improved by one position after day one, moving up to fifth with a total of 77 points. The victory went to the University of Chicago (193 pts.).

"We're improving steadily," said Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "Indoors, we were sixth this year, and now we're one position higher. The team is definitely moving in the right direction. We are getting to know each other better, to build more confidence."

Junior Kristina Harris had a good day on the track. She finished second in the 100m with a big personal best of 12.27, just 0.03sec shy of the NYU record. In the 200m, she claimed another second-place finish with a time of 26.16 in a strong headwind (-4.5 meters per second).

"Kristina has been improving impressively this year," noted Boylan-Pett. "Starting from the beginning of the indoor season, she is setting personal bests literally every week, getting more and more confident and more and more fit. She works hard, trusts coaches and our training, and it's working."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Lily Corsaro finished third in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 18:10.00. Sophomore Justine Morris in her first race ever over this distance took 19th in 20:15.01.

"It was great to see Lily having a strong race today," explained Boylan-Pett. "She is a star on the team, but was injured. And, it's always hard coming back. We had a few races before where she wasn't 100% fit. But today she made a huge step forward. All the last mile she was running by hersef, chased by a group of rivals. Not the easiest situation in the race, but she finished strong and took third."

- The Violets improved their 4x400m season's best by almost eight seconds. The foursome of junior Lydia Guo, freshman Ireland Gibson, junior Sarah Sisk, and senior Caroline Spring ran 3:55.14 for third place.

- After a season's best in the 800m heats and a record-breaking performance in the 4x800m yesterday, Sisk had another strong race on Sunday. In the 800m final she finished fourth in 2:17.23.
