NYU Competes at Tom Farrell Classic

The New York University women's track & field team took part in St. John's University's Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, May 7, in Queens, NY.

The Violets captured their first victory in the women's pole vault as junior Dana Placentra registered an NYU school record and career-best height of 3.35m. Following behind in succession were seniors Ilana Brown and Jess Eker in second (3.20m) and third place (career-best 2.60m), respectively.

Sophomore Lara Dorsky was a winner in the 5,000m run with a personal-best time of 19:53.10.

On the track, the two NYU 4x400m relay teams took the top two spots. Freshmen Mary Conti and Justina Sanders-Schifano, sophomore Ireland Gibson, and freshman Alyssa Jean crossed the tape first (3:58.43), followed closely behind by seniors Lydia Guo, Drew Washington, Sarah Sisk, and Becky Turlip (4:01.19)

Junior Simone Cooper secured third in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 11.15m, while sophomore Brianna Yee finished seventh in a personal-best 10.72m. Finishing hip-to-hip were senior Danielle Medellin and freshmen Alyssa Jean in ninth (10.36m) and 10th place (10.27m), respectively.

Gibson also seized second in the 800m (2:15.60) followed by Sisk (2:18.12) and Turlip (2:19.42) in third and fourth place, respectively.

Turlip also posted a third-place finish in the 1,500m with a time of 4:39.83. Sophomores Emily Dethlefs and Megan Davis trailed behind in 11th (5:05.41) and 16th place (season-best 5:25.67), respectively.

MORE HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Erica Bohdan placed second in the 3,000m with a time of 10:40.04.

- Sanders-Schifano took fifth in her debut in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.83. Sophomore Alexa Goldman trailed in 11th, posting a time of 1:14.83.

- Conti also placed fourth in the 400m with a personal-best time of 58.93.
