The New York University women's track & field team took part in Ramapo College's Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday, April 2, in Mahwah, NJ.

The Violets tied for sixth place overall with the Stevens Institute of Technology at 28 points. There were 30 competing teams at the invite.

NYU's presence was felt from the onset with competition in the 4x100m relay, which consisted of senior Kristina Harris and freshmen Alyssa Jean, Samantha Scoggins and Mary Conti. The foursome placed second with a time of 50.12, behind only Monroe College (47.87).

Conti returned and made her mark in the 400m with a time of 59.72 (third place overall).

Freshman Chelle Mitchell secured fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best 16.41.

Continuing with the freshmen theme of the day, the team of Jeans, Scoggins and Mitchell returned to the track in the 200m to place seventh, 17th and 46th with times of 26.83, 27.47 and 29.83, respectively.

"The effort was great, especially from the freshmen," said NYU Assistant Coach Erison Hurtault. "Conti started us off and had a solid time. Chelle did really well in her races. Everyone showed improvement.

"We have a really strong group of freshmen and the women are starting to find a groove," continued Hurtault. "We're starting to figure things out during this outdoor season. They are really showing their great fitness."
