NYU's 4x400 Relay Wraps Up Season as All-Americans

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's 4x400m relay team sealed its 2016 outdoor track & field season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Saturday, May 28, held in Waverly, IA, at Wartburg College. The Violets finished with four points to place 58th as a team at the weekend championship.

After qualifying for the 4x400m finals on Friday with a NYU record (3:45.63), the squad of freshman Mary Conti, senior Drew Washington, freshman Justina Sanders-Schifano, and sophomore Ireland Gibson posted a time of 3:46.15. They trailed third-place award winners Wesley College (3:45.59) by less than a second.

"I can't really complain, they competed great," expressed Assistant Coach Erison Hurtault. "Now the entire team should come out knowing what they are capable of. Top three is only a few steps away. This team broke ground. Huge personal bests, huge school records, and top five in the country. The entire team is motivated to step up next year and fill in the shoes of our seniors like Drew. They should be proud of what they accomplished. I sure am.

"Time to take a break," Hurtault continued when reflecting on the future. "They have put in a lot of work this year. I did not expect for us to end this far into the season, which only goes to show their great effort. Time to chill, reassess and rest. At the end of the day, there was not only a great effort at the NCAA Championships but also throughout the year."

The NCAA Outdoor Championships conclude the 2015-16 season for NYU Athletics.
